Term 3 has been packed with exciting activities across our school, from classroom-based learning to a wide range of extra-curricular events. The final two weeks has been no exception, with great student engagement in various activities. Recent highlights have included:
- Queensland Parliament Outreach Program
- Year 6 Into Year 7 Transition Days
- Year 11 Student Leadership Speeches
- Year 12 Mock Exams
- R U Ok? Day Lunch on the Lawn
- Student Forum
- Prossie’s Got Talent
My heartfelt appreciation goes to all our staff who have made these excellent opportunities - and more, possible for our students. Without their support these activities would not be possible.
R U OK? Day Lunch on the Lawn
Last week our school came together to celebrate R U OK? Day with a whole-school picnic lunch.
The event created a relaxed and positive environment, filled with music, singing, and plenty of laughter.
More than just a fun day, the purpose behind R U OK? Day is to remind us all of the importance of checking in with those around us and starting conversations that could make a real difference.

Our students truly embraced this message, supporting and encouraging each other, showing that kindness and connection to their fellow peers.
A special thank you to Mrs O’Keefe for her organisation and home baking, and to Music Teacher Mr Gordon for guiding the music that lifted the atmosphere on the day. We especially thank those students who bravely performed and entertained the crowd.
Student Forum
Our Proserpine State High School Student Forum was held on the last day of term. The Student Forum is an amazing opportunity to incorporate the student voice into school decision-making processes and future planning. All School Captains, Executive Student Councillors, Junior and Senior Leaders, as well as all Student Council Representatives (Care Groups), were invited to attend this forum, with this term's special guest speakers being our Adopt-A-Cops, Constables Kristina Smith and Joshua Gibbins.
The three-hour event was attended by approximately 80 students from Years 7 to 12, allowing feedback to be gained from various sectors of the school. The forum is always a rewarding experience, integrating feedback from both junior and senior perspectives, working together, and having an equal voice on important issues.
The forum is a great opportunity for students to grow their leadership skills and be involved in decision-making processes that affect our broader school community and, in particular, the students of the school.
The objectives of this forum are to explore issues relating to our school community, such as:
· Student organisation and preparation for learning
· Police perception in our community
· Maximising the use of student diaries.
It is an absolute privilege to work alongside all the students attending the forum to create positive, safe, and supportive environments for our school community.
House Cup – Kennedy
Congratulations to Kennedy House for taking out the Term 3 HOUSE CUP! Hundreds of students celebrated their victory at second break yesterday with their reward party featuring pizza and cake.
Academic, behaviour, and effort results, 95% and above attendance, Care Group challenges, and the Athletics Carnival were among some of the points allocated this term.
Well done to you all!
Celebrating student success
Congratulations to many of our Year 12 students who have received early entry offers to universities across the state and beyond. These offers reflect not only the dedication and hard work of our seniors, but also the positive impact of our teachers and support staff over the years.

Happy School Holidays
Wishing all of our families a safe and restful September school holidays. I hope you enjoy the break with your loved ones as we look forward to a positive and optimistic Term 4.
From Our Year Level Coordinators
Year 11 Camp wrap-up
In the last week of August, our Year 11 cohort participated in their annual school camp. This year they stayed at Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park. Over the three days, our students participated and competed it a range of activities intended to push them out of their comfort zones and develop some really strong connections with their peers. From the deep and meaningful, to the absolutely absurd, the experiences were ones they will hopefully cherish for many years to come.
I cannot thank enough the efforts of our staff as without their efforts behind-the-scenes, we simply could not have provided the students with this experience. The student’s behaved exceptionally, and there were many compliments from holidayers and Cape Hillsborough staff to myself and our team of teachers. Our Year 11 student Mitsuki Jaremus penned the description of her camp experience.
"I think I underestimated the importance of camp. This camp was constructed to highlight the leadership within people and strengthen our bonds as students, and it was really enjoyable to experience our grade coming together to tackle and solve problems. I learnt that leadership isn’t about dictating and telling people what to do, rather it’s about being involved, about proving to your peers that they can trust you to come up with a solution and helping them achieve that."

Year 7 Digital Literacy Students Shine

Year 7 Textiles – Stitching Up New Skills!
This term, our Year 7 students embarked on a creative journey in Textiles, learning the basics of hand sewing—many for the very first time! Through a series of small projects, they built confidence and technique, culminating in the creation of their own pear or apple-shaped pin cushions. The results were both adorable and impressive, showcasing their growing skills and creativity. Well done to everyone.
Experience helps make connections in Geography

Next term, our class will be venturing to the local Whitsunday Regional Council Chambers to visit the Disaster Management Unit. This will further our students' understanding of preparation and recovery.
In our last lesson of Term 3, our students had fun exploring plate tectonics and modelling this in class - it was delicious.
Year 12 Hospitality Practices Plating Perfection
Our Year 12 students recently completed their final cooking assessment, showcasing their culinary skills by plating a restaurant-quality entrée. Building on techniques developed throughout the term, students focused on presentation, balance, and creativity to deliver beautifully plated dishes. The assessment highlighted their growth in both technical ability and food styling, with impressive results that reflected their dedication and flair. Well done year 12s.
Bringing Literature to Life with stage magic
Our Year 10 and 12 English students had the chance to see literature leap off the page with two exciting opportunities recently that highlighted the value of literature and storytelling though a touch of theatre sparkle.
On 20th August, Shake & Stir Theatre Company stormed the stage with their electrifying take on Shakespeare’s Macbeth for Year 12 General English, and Orwell’s Animal Farm for Year 10 Extension English. Their performances were bold, refreshing, and wonderfully unique—breathing new life into classic texts and sparking plenty of “aha” moments in preparation for assessment.
Just a few weeks later, on 10th September, our Year 12 General English students were treated to a homegrown highlight.
Proserpine State High School 2016 alumni Connor Hawkins and Jackson Wecker—now thriving as professional stage and commercial actors, based in Canada and London, respectively—returned to share not only tips for tackling Macbeth and exam preparation, but also tales of their careers, high school memories, and some sage advice for our Year 12s about life beyond the school gates.
It was more than just a learning experience; it was also a heartfelt reunion, with our General English teachers and their past students swapping memories and celebrating how far they’ve all come.
Together, these experiences reminded us that literature isn’t just studied—it’s lived, shared, and celebrated, inspiring creativity and critical thinking well beyond the page.
Queensland Parliament Outreach Program
Our school was honoured to host representatives from Queensland Parliament as part of their regional outreach program. Students from Year 10,11 and 12 Legal Studies, Year 10 Economics and Business, Year 11 and 12 Social and Community Studies and Year 8 Humanities were given the opportunity to engage in a rotation of activities throughout the day.
The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about how our democratic system works and the role of Parliament in shaping the laws and policies that affect all Queenslanders. Students engaged with a mock parliament acting out various roles as they participated in passing different laws. The program highlighted the relevance of politics in our daily lives and encouraged students to consider how their voices can help shape the future.
Here’s what some students had to say about the experience:
"It was an amazing experience and I learnt so much about Parliament and its importance to our laws. I really enjoyed speaking as the opposition leader in the mock parliament." - Brooklyn Bredl, Year 8
"The visit from Queensland Parliament was entertaining and fun. My favourite part was where I got to act as the Sergeant-at-Arms and hold the mace." - Jaxon Mclagan, Year 8
"This experience was helpful in consolidating my understanding of governance in Queensland. I really enjoyed the interactive mock parliament which allowed us to experience what it is like to debate and pass a bill." - Aisling Barrett, Year 11
"Acting as the opposition leader in our mock parliament session has inspired me even further to want to lead and shape positive change in our world." - Cassius McLeod, Year 11

Strong field of representation at NQ Athletics
Twenty-six keen Proserpine State High school athletes travelled to Townsville to trial for North Queensland in Track and Field. Most students put in strong performances on the day and got to experience what was the standard across the North Queensland region. Five students were selected to attend the State Titles, also in Townsville, in October.
A special congratulations must go to Shailee Mewha, Oliver Dibben and Peppa Geisel who now have the distinction of holding North Queensland records after the trials. Shailee broke the 13-years girls 800m and 1500m records on the day with times of two minutes 17.65 seconds and four minutes 40.97 seconds respectively.
Not to be outdone Oliver set a new record in the 1500m, while Peppa set a new 15-years girls 1500m record with four minutes 45.70 seconds and narrowly missed the 800m record by less than two seconds. They now join Jana Musumeci and Bryn Hodgson as Proserpine State High School record holders at NQ level.

Congratulations to Millie Groom who was selected for the 15-years girls 800m (two min 28 secs), 1500m (four min 52.97 secs) and 3000m (10 mins 53.87secs) plus the Steeple chase. Completing the middle distance running selections was Oliver Dibben who was selected in the 14-years boys 1500m (4min 33.97secs). Pania Corowa was our only field athlete selected in the 16-years girls Javelin (31.16m).
Other notable performances from the day were Lilah Mewha in the 14-years girls 800m and 1500m events, Kobe Marjoram, boys 13-years 400m and High Jump and Ella Gosney in girls 14-years Shotput.
Well done to all students who competed and had an enjoyable day.
Exciting results in Cricket
Well done to our Year 8 and 9 students Ben Hope, Oliver Dibben and Emerson Baker who were selected to represent North Queensland at the State Cricket Championships in Rockhampton in December.
Our Year 7 student Zahra Cale recently competed in a week-long cricket carnival at the Queensland State Championships in Brisbane.
Zahra was one of 12 girls from North Queensland and the Peninsula representing the side.
Zahra hit some personal goals with her bowling and batting statistics, and was also very handy in the field taking some awesome catches.
Her confidence has grown and she is looking forward to returning to her club team as they start their next season.
Well done to you all!
Year 12s take out lunchtime netball friendly

Full line-up at this year's Prossie's Got Talent
The crowd enjoyed our annual Prossie's Got Talent show on the last day of term, with performances from students across all year levels. This year's winners were a tie between our Year 12 duo Kaydee Miller and Domink James- Johnson and our Year 7 student Vince Radford. Kaydee and Dominik sang their hearts out, while Vince's djing skills impressed the crowd and had them dancing along to his tunes.
Our students had to guess which of our talented staff were performing in the Masked Singer division which included performances by Mr Casey, Mrs Crear and Miss Daly. The final act from a group of our teachers was made even more special with a health message about the impact of using e-cigarettes.
Well done to our Senior Student Council for an entertaining event enjoyed by all. Thank you to our judges and to Mr Casey along with our Seagrass Theatre and Music Company students who supported behind-the-scenes to ensure all ran smoothly.

Inclusivity Week an exciting new initiative
Article written by Danni Muller
This year, our Social Cultural Committee proudly launched Inclusivity Week, a new initiative designed to bring our school community together and celebrate diversity. The goal was simple: to create opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and ensure that everyone felt welcome and involved.
During Care Group, classes put their knowledge to the test in the Cultural Quiz, tackling a wide range of questions about traditions and customs from around the world. At lunchtime, the fun continued on the oval with games from different cultures including Bocci, Kubb, and boomerang throwing.
It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, enjoying themselves, and learning something new along the way. Inclusivity Week was a great success, and we’re excited to build on this momentum to make next year’s event even better.

Students celebrate success in positive program
We are thrilled to announce the successful graduation of the latest cohort from our Renavigating Angry and Guilty Emotions (RAGE) Intervention program! After months of dedication and personal growth, these individuals have developed tools needed to overcome obstacles and grow as people. RAGE us a tailored support program that works through various ways of dealing with challenges through the use of practical resources. This graduation marks a positive step forward for the boys and we are incredibly proud of the commitment they’ve shown throughout the program. We look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future.
Fyn doing well balancing Year 12 & Enduro Racing
Article by Fyn Gunn
Over the past few months, my life has been anything but quiet. Between tackling six ATAR subjects at school and competing in one of the toughest motorsports in Australia—hard enduro dirt bike racing—I’ve been testing both my brain and my endurance.
When people hear “dirt bike racing,” they often picture thrill-seekers doing wheelies, burnouts, or just messing around. But hard enduro couldn’t be more different. It’s a professional discipline that demands focus, preparation, and grit. I train seven days a week—cardio, strength, and flexibility in the gym—while riding three to four times weekly. All that effort is for the chance to perform at my absolute best in brutal four-hour-plus races… which, believe it or not, we call fun!
National and State-Level Success
Since my last update, I’ve raced two more rounds of the national series, finishing second in both. These results have kept me in strong contention for the Expert Class National Championship.
This year also introduced the very first Queensland Hard Enduro Series. I stepped up to the premier Pro Class for the challenge. In Round 1, I placed seventh—further back than I’d hoped—but in Round 2, everything clicked. I secured second place for the weekend, earning third overall in the Queensland Championship. Standing on that podium along my idols was truly a dream come true.
Along with this being my best result so far, this race in particular puts the sport into perspective: it took me four and a half hours to complete just one lap, averaging only 4 km/h.
Looking Ahead
Next on the calendar is Round 4 at Sand Hill, NSW, taking place at the end of this term. It’s the second-last round of the national series, and I’m determined to push even harder. I couldn’t do any of this without the incredible support of my sponsors—both long-time partners and new additions: Style Cycle, Wurx, EvoPrime Fitness, LK Strength, Ocean Rafting, and Ride Whitsundays.
Students stride to excellence at championships

Shailee competed in the 13-years 3km event and placed eigth in Australia and was the third Queenslander across the line. The 13-years Queensland girls were the second state across the finish line so they received a silver medal in the team event.
Two days later, Shailee competed with the Queensland 13-years girls in the relay and finished in first place receiving a gold medal.
Millie did exceptionally well also placing fifth in her age group, a result she was especially happy with being her first time competing at the event.
The duo are looking forward to competing at the Athletics State Trials in October. We wish you both the best of luck!

SPECIAL REPORT: Anxiety & Young People
Anxiety is a natural and expected part of growing up. In fact, it plays an important role in helping young people prepare for challenges, stay alert to potential dangers and adapt to new situations. It can motivate them to study for a test, practise before a performance, or tread carefully in unfamiliar settings. However, for many children and adolescents today, anxiety can shift from being a helpful response to becoming intense, persistent and disruptive.
The world young people are growing up in is fast-paced and often demanding. Academic pressures, social expectations, family changes and the constant presence of digital media can all contribute to heightened stress and worry.
When anxiety is left unrecognised or unsupported, it can begin to affect a young person's wellbeing, learning, friendships and self-confidence. That's why it's so important for adult carers to understand how anxiety may present in children. Everyone experiences anxiety differently, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution.
This edition of SchoolTV raises awareness and provides families with practical strategies to help young people manage anxiety in healthy, constructive ways.

What year did you graduate? 2016

Some of the highlights were a week in Nashville, three massive country music festivals, New York City and all the cool people and places in between! We drove over 7000km in that trip and was the time of our lives!
I’d also like to say watching and being a part of my friends lives as we all "grow up" watching them all get their careers and/or get married and have babies is such a blessing too.

Favourite quote? One I heard a while back that I love, and isn’t actually about farming per se is “Sometimes when you find the right farming community, you can have the harvest of a lifetime.” – Lainey Wilson
