Where Are They Now?

Where are they now? Grace McDonald

What year did you graduate? 2016

What were your favourite subjects at Proserpine State High School? English, Maths B, Chemistry, Biology, Health and Vocational Art.
Favourite Proserpine State High School memory? Probably Art class with Miss Davies (Mrs Bell now!) or Maths with Ms Rasmussen, some of my favourite memories were made in those classes!
Where did life take you after you graduated? Many places! I went to university after high school and started a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, then decided to change to a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Bachelor of Agribusiness.

What job position are you currently in? I’m a Graduate Agronomist in the Elders Graduate Agronomy Program.

Tell us about why you picked a career in Agriculture, and what your study/training journey has been? I kind of say Agronomy found me, even though I grew up on a farm, it wasn’t until after high school that I really discovered the career options in Agriculture. I was in my Veterinary Science degree, and found the pasture lectures to be a strong point of mine and went hang on a minute… Long story short I then changed into a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Bachelor of Agribusiness and graduated in 2023.
download_1_.jpgBest experience since graduating at Proserpine State High School? Probably my six-week trip to the USA and Canada chasing country music. One of my best friends and I rented an RV for six weeks and drove all around the North West/Great Lakes region of the States and Niagara Falls in Canada.

Some of the highlights were a week in Nashville, three massive country music festivals, New York City and all the cool people and places in between! We drove over 7000km in that trip and was the time of our lives!

I’d also like to say watching and being a part of my friends lives as we all "grow up" watching them all get their careers and/or get married and have babies is such a blessing too.

Favourite quote?
One I heard a while back that I love, and isn’t actually about farming per se is “Sometimes when you find the right farming community, you can have the harvest of a lifetime.” – Lainey Wilson
