Paul Bowman Challenge this weekend!
Bowen Cinemas is celebrating World Space Week!
Bowen Summergarden Cinema and RP Williams Films are holding a children and youth poster Competition as part of World Space Week 2025, which runs from October 4-10 each year.
The Poster competition will run in conjunction with Bowen Cinema’s school holiday screenings of To The Stars- Beginning a feature documentary by Williams Films about the early years and origin story of Gilmour Space Technologies.
There is no entry fee or requirements for the competition, simply a love of, or interest in space and space related activities. ALL entries will be displayed in the Bowen Cinema foyer for the duration of World Space Week 2025 from October 4-10.
The prize is a Family Pass to Bowen Cinema (Ie 6 tickets, the equivalent of a family of 2 adults and 4 children) to be used for any filming they wish and a DVD of the documentary. The prize will be drawn by a ballot on October 5th just prior to the last screening of To The Stars- beginning at 7pm that Sunday evening.
Note: Two small additional prizes will also be given for the best primary and high school aged entry. These will be chosen by cinema patrons prior to the October 5 draw.
World Space Week has been running for many years and the 2025 Theme is Living In Space. As per the attached poster, the competition calls for entrants to pick a planet or planetary moon from within our Solar System, then design a way to reach it and live there.
Entries can be dropped into Ben DeLuca at Bowen Summergarden Cinema anytime before the end of October 1st. Submitted entries will then be displayed in the foyer of the Cinema and can be picked up at the conclusion of World Space Week after October 10th.
Do your part to help support the reef!
Proserpine State High School is proud to be a Reef Guardian School – where our students take meaningful action that directly support Reef protection and resilience.
And now, we’re joining the Reef Authority in support of the Lifetime of Greatness campaign – alongside the hundreds of thousands of students, teachers and families also part of the Reef Guardian School program – to back the Reef’s nomination for the United Nations Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award.️
The campaign is part of the Lifetime of Greatness Project, developed by Tourism Tropical North Queensland in collaboration with the Reef Authority, Reef Guardian Councils, Traditional Owners, Master Reef Guides, and the tourism industry. Already, it has reached over five billion people and attracted more than 1.3 million supporters worldwide!
If successful, the Reef would become the first living entity (and non-human!) recipient of the highest environmental honour awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme – this would be history made!
Join us in backing a lifetime of greatness by clicking the following link and showing your support by nominating the Great Barrier Reef.
Study STEM over summer
Applications are now open! START QUT (STEM Intensive) delivers a first-year QUT STEM unit in a two-week intensive study program during the summer holidays in January 2026. This unique program is designed for current Year 11 students entering Year 12 in 2026.
To promote diversity in STEM, specific units in the intensive block have particular gender or attribute requirements as an affirmative action to enhance participation in those fields. If you are not eligible for a specific unit during the Summer 2 study period, you may have the opportunity to study it in Semester 1 or Semester 2.
You can participate in one of our study units to see the differences between high school and university while gaining insight into STEM studies in a safe and supportive environment.
There are no tuition fees for successful applications. LIMITED places are available in each unit, students are enrolled on a first-come basis and you will be notified if your preferred unit is not available. For more information visit the website.
