Cooper receives Silver Duke of Edinborough Award
Our Year 10 student Cooper Parry has successfully attained the prestigious Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. This achievement is a testament to his hard work, determination, and commitment to personal development as part of the Australian Air Force Cadets 110 SQN Whitsunday.
The Duke of Edinburgh Awrd is a renowned program that challenges young people to develop skills, engage in physical activities, volunteer in their communities, and embark on adventurous expeditions. Cooper has gone above and beyond in each of these areas, showcasing not only his leadership and resilience but also a genuine passion for personal growth.
Keep shining, Cooper! We can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
Tom set to ride on the big stage
Congratulations to our Year 12 student Tom O'Neill who has been selected to represent Queensland at the International MXGP in Darwin next month.
Tom recently placed fourth at the Sunshine State MX Championships in the MX2 category and will compete in the MX3 class for 14-18-year-olds.
It is the first time the international event has come to Australia since 2001 and Tom will compete against riders from across Australia at the Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex. Well done Tom!
Seagrass impress at major events
Our Seagrass Theatre and Music Company students wowed the crowd at the Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor's Charity Ball last month. Our students performed the musical masterpiece “One Day More” from Les Misérables on stage at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre. Well done to you all on a terrific showcase! Thank you, Miss Williams, for chaperoning our students at the event!
Our Seagrass students also wowed audiences on Friday night at their annual Musical Theatre Night showcase. Below are two excepts from our Year 12 students and company Presidents Hayden Hudak and Dominik James-Johnson.
Performing as part of Proserpine State High School's Seagrass Theatre and Music Company for the past five years has been the most rewarding part of my high school experience. Getting the opportunity to further dig my nails into the “behind the scenes” of it all has been an experience that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Watching previous Seagrass committees work through both the ups and downs of such a large responsibility inspired me to do the same, allowing me to place my influence into the company as it continues to evolve.
I have learnt so much about working as a collective, as being Co-President of such a challenging project has developed my passion for the Performing Arts. I’ve been a part of the company's journey since its inception, and the people that make it all happen—the performers, the volunteers, and the staff—are all my biggest supporters and closest friends.
My fellow graduating seniors and I will be sad to leave it behind as many of us move off into careers in the Performing Arts. We are forever grateful to this school for the possibilities we’ve been able to explore. Thank you to everyone who supports our shows both behind the scenes and in the audience; and thank you so much for such an amazing experience!

Our school's Seagrass Theatre and Music Company has become one of my main outlets to perform and express myself since 2021. This year, Seagrass has given me a new perspective on what is required for an amazing show to be delivered. The amount of effort from the directors, producers, vice presidents and presidents has astounded me, and it has helped inspire some of our Year 11 students to take up roles next year.
It was such an amazing experience performing at the Mayor’s Charity Ball and the Great Barrier Reef Festival to help promote our Musical Theatre Night. The teamwork it took to put on this show was astounding, as people were coming in before school, during lunch breaks, and even on some weekends to prepare and rehearse. We appreciate everyone who lets us showcase our talent, as we as a company are continuing to put ourselves out there.

Junior and Senior Debaters represent at comp
Last week, our talented debaters represented our school with confidence and skill in our local Inter-school Debating Competition against Bowen State High School and St Catherine’s Catholic College. All our junior and senior teams presented well-structured arguments, quick thinking, and persuasive delivery on challenging topics. The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their public speaking abilities and engage in critical thinking, while also building connections with neighbouring schools. A special congratulations to our Seniors – Allegra Bradley, Macy Werner and Thalia Foster who made the finals against Bowen State High School, and to our Juniors - Jasper Korosec, Yesha Trazo and Miller Connolly who made the junior finals against St Catherine’s.
Congratulations to all participants for their dedication and teamwork – you did us proud. We are looking forward to our next competition to be held in Bowen in Week 10.
