New records at Whitsunday Athletics Trial
The Whitsunday Athletics Trial was completed at Proserpine State High School last Thursday 14th August. There were many excellent performances on the day highlighted by middle distance students, Shailee Mewha and Peppa Geisel breaking both the 800m and 1500m records in their age groups. Shailee set a new 13-Years Girls 800m record of two minutes 27.74 seconds and a 1500m record of four minutes 56.12seconds, becoming the first female to break the five minute mark at a Whitsunday trial. Peppa ran two minutes 29.20 seconds for the 800m record and then five minutes 05.14 seconds in the 15-Years Girls 1500m to claim her second record of the day.
Many Proserpine students finished first or second qualifiers in their events making them eligible for the North Queensland Athletics Trials in Townsville on Thursday 3rd September. Students need to collect forms from Mr Cox in SLC Staffroom and return to our Administration Office with payment by this Friday 22nd August. Any students wanting to train for their event are welcome to see Mr Cox to organise a day and time.

Congratulations to siblings Blaire and Bella Kellner who recently made Northern selection. Bella trialled for rugby league and received great feedback at her trials showing great skills and playing hard. Being just her third season playing league, Bella is showing great potential and is training in Townsville in the lead up to the championships in September. Well done Bella!
Blaire was selected for rugby union and competed at the State Championships at the end of July at Nudgee College. There he competed over four days going up against teams from across the state. Well done Blaire!
