Peter Doherty Awards

A massive congratulations to our Science Technician Hilary Maloney who received an Outstanding STEM Support Officer Award at the Peter Doherty Awards Ceremony at the Queensland University of Technology last week.

Hilary's success in receiving the award is a reflection of her commitment to STEM education at Proserpine State High School. Hilary's contributions act as a catalyst to inspiring our students’ interest in STEM and enhancing their education.

Well done Hilary and thank you for your dedication to our students!

JET and SET Planning

Two important events for our Year 9 and Year 10 students are fast approaching - the Year 9 Success Into Senior (JET Planning) and Year 10 SET Planning sessions.

These meetings are student-centred and designed to promote a smooth transition from Junior to Senior School. With the configuration of the senior curriculum, it’s important that decisions regarding subject choices are well-informed.

The foundation set in Year 10 will be crucial for selecting the right subjects in Year 11, leading to greater student success as students transition from school.

Our Year 10 SET Plan meetings are a key point of communication between students, parents/caregivers, and our school. These meetings assist in selecting successful pathways for Years 11 and 12, and explore additional options such as external courses, TAFE, and School-Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Bookings are now open via SOBS by clicking the following link.

Important Dates:

Year 9 JET Plan Interviews: Friday 29th August

Year 10 SET Plan Interviews: Tuesday 2nd September

Helping your child succeed at high school

It is also timely to emphasise with students the upcoming demands for the assessment period for Semester 2. I urge families to be aware of your child’s study plan and assist them in managing their study time effectively.

Please familiarise yourself with your child’s study and assessment commitments. All students at Proserpine State High School have access to a semester study planner that details their core learning and assessment requirements. These semester overviews are individualised for your child and are available via the QParents app.

Your child should have a clear study plan that allocates time for homework, assignments, and regular revision for each subject. These plans should also consider extra-curricular and personal commitments to maintain a balanced lifestyle, which is essential for maximising achievement.

If you need further advice regarding the end-of-year assessment schedule, please contact our school. An appropriate school representative will be in touch to assist.

Term 3 Activities

Our students continue to engage in an array of pursuits. National Science Week activities were held last week with a variety for our students to engage in. Whitsunday Athletics Trials allowed our students to shine - with several students gaining selection to North Queensland Athletics Trials and our Year 7 student Shailee Mewah once again breaking long standing records on the day. We also recognised Bullying No Way! Day with Care Group activities and a friendly social game of touch football at lunchtime. This week is Book Week and today our staff and students dressed up in costume in-line with the theme ‘Book an Adventure’.

On Friday we have our annual Hummingbird House Crazy Hat Fundraiser, which is lead by our Senior Student Council, raising all important funds for specialised care of young people with a life-limiting condition, helping them make every moment precious when life is short. The Student Council will be taking donations and selling hot chips and drinks in the Quadrangle to raise funds for a charity that holds deep significance for our school community.

Interschool Debating

Congratulations to all of our junior and senior students who competed in the second round of the Inter-school Debating Competition last Tuesday. You all did a fantastic job representing our school. Special congratulations to the teams who made it to the finals. Thank you to Ms Foot, Miss Whish and our staff for coordinating this great event for our local youth.

Year 11 Leadership

We wish all our aspiring student leaders the best of luck as they prepare for upcoming nomination and election processes for the 2026 leadership roles. Heading into Year 11 Leadership Camp will provide some further reflection in the final weeks before the final process commences. Well done to you all!

Seagrass Theatre and Music Company

IMG_7415.JPG

A special round of applause goes out to our Seagrass Theatre and Music Company students, who truly entertained the audience with their remarkable stage performances on Friday night. Their singing, dancing and musical talents captivated everyone in attendance and made the evening unforgettable. This event was more than just a performance, it was a showcase of the immense talent at Proserpine State High School. The outstanding performances highlighted the dedication, creativity, and hard work of our students who have a passion for The Arts.

It is important to note that our Seagrass Theatre and Music Company is student led – meaning that our students directed, produced, choreographed, and everything else behind the scenes. Outstanding leadership!

Tournament of Minds - Good luck!

Good luck to our junior students who will be competing in Bowen this weekend at the Tournament of the Minds Competition. Our students have been dedicating their time at lunch breaks perfecting their routines in the lead up to the event. Thank you to our Teacher Carol McCormack for mentoring our students through their preparations.
