Isla enjoys Ergon Energy apprenticeship event

Our Year 10 student Isla Bennett attended Ergon Energy's Apprenticeship Information Night last week after hearing about the event in our school's weekly Student Opportunities email.

The fully immersive experience included a mixture of classroom information and the opportunity to hear from current Ergon Energy apprentices and trainers.

The students in attendance then spent time in the training yard where they tried on a harness and went up in the bucket lift. The evening was very informative and provided an insight into Ergon Energy apprenticeships.

Student voice shared at Chamber breakfast

Proserpine State High School students made up the discussion panel at the Whitsundays Chamber of Commerce and Industry breakfast last Thursday morning. The event was hosted by Wilmar at their Mill Social Club, with a focus to explore what today’s apprentices, trainees, and early career professionals value most in a workplace including what it means to work for a local business.
More than 30 business owners were in attendance and heard from our current Year 12s Mia Vloedmans who is completing her Certificate IV in Allied Health and placement with PhysioPlus and Luke Stefani who spoke about his Certificate III in Information Technology and school-based traineeship with Managed Computer Solutions. The duo were joined by former graduates Will Muller, Ryan Muller, and Beau Sales who shared their experience transitioning from school to the workforce as apprentices for Wilmar Sugar Australia Limited and Filby's Motors.
Attendees also heard key insights from Georgia Lavers from the Greater Whitsunday Alliance Regional Jobs Committee, who shared real-world insights and lived experiences. This included practical tips for fostering supportive and engaging work environments and how businesses can future-proof their workforce strategies in a competitive labour market.
Thank you to our Senior Schooling Officer Mrs Bernie Porter and Link and Launch Coordinator Ms Shelley Simpson for organising this wonderful networking opportunity for our students!

Link & Launch celebrates 100 days to go!

IMG_9420.JPG

Our Year 12s marked the milestone of 100 days left of high school last Tuesday with our Link and Launch Coordinator Shelley Simpson spoiling them with delicious doughnuts at morning tea.

The Link and Launch program connects with young people who have completed Year 12 but have not yet transitioned to further study, training or work. Ms Simpson assists our graduates to navigate a range of post-school options in line with their individual goals, aspirations, skills and strengths and supports them to make independent choices that will equip them to make a successful transition.

Some options young people may consider through the Link and Launch program include:

  • free apprenticeships for under 25s
  • Fee-Free TAFE
  • Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs
  • alternative entry to university
  • employment
  • and federal incentives and participation programs like Transition to Work.
