Principal Perspective
Spirit Week!
Spirit Week is here, and it’s one of the most exciting times on our school calendar. A big thank you to our senior student leaders and committees for their hard work in making this week rewarding for all involved. Special appreciation goes to our dedicated staff for assisting with the behind-the-scenes for a fantastic line-up of events.
Throughout the week, there are numerous activities designed to create positive connections among peers in Care Groups, emphasising House and school spirit, and creating positive lasting memories between our staff and students. The week concludes this Friday with our highly anticipated Care Carnival, a day full of entertaining activities and challenges between Care Groups. The main aim of the event being, FUN and PARTICIPATION! I look forward to seeing everyone at the events throughout the week.
We will do a full wrap-up of SPIRIT Week in our final school Newsletter for the term next fortnight.
Proudly a b kinder school
Proserpine State High School was proud to host the first b kinder summit in the Whitsundays last week. We welcomed students from both primary and secondary schools from across the region to participate in the event that saw outstanding collaboration towards a common goal of sharing kindness in our school and greater communities.
We are proud of our six ambassadors - Savannah Lamont, Mia Vloedmans, Abbie Green, Elizabeth Pascoe, Georgia Whitton and Charli Young who will be hosting our b kinder day at school on Tuesday 24th June selling b kinder cards and soft drinks.
Terrific results at Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup
Our Year 9 volleyball teams delivered outstanding performances at the Volleyball Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup last weekend. Our students proudly represented our school and showcasing their talent, teamwork, and determination on the courts.
Our Year 9 Girls Honours team had a strong campaign, finishing nineth in the state. Competing against the top teams across Queensland, our girls demonstrated resilience and skill throughout the tournament, earning a well-deserved spot in the top ten.
Our Year 9 Girls Division 2 team put in an excellent effort, placing fifth overall. Their consistent play and strong team spirit were key factors in their top five finish.
Our Year 9 Boys Division 2 team had an exceptional run, securing third place in the state. Their podium finish highlights their competitive edge and the hard work they put into their training.
All three teams should be proud of their accomplishments and the way they represented our school on the Gold Coast.
A special thank you to our Teachers Ben Smith, Kate Thomson, and Nicky Ryan who prepared our students for the event and travelled with them and supported them while away. We're proud of you all!

Senior Student Leaders Inducted
Our school proudly welcomes a new group of student leaders into our highly regarded leadership program. These students are continuing to refine their skills in preparation for nominating for leadership roles next term at our school.
Since the induction of these leaders two weeks ago, we have finished our final round of senior leadership workshops. These workshops continue to identify leadership abilities, as we empower our emerging leaders to embrace challenges, set ambitious goals, and strive for excellence - learning valuable life skills along the way. All members of the leadership group in their respective roles have an opportunity to shape the direction of our school while contributing positively to our community. We congratulate each of them for being passionate and ambitious towards their goals.

JCU Winter School Program
Two of our Year 10 first nation students applied for the 2025 Indigenous Winter School Program. Avalon Black Stone and Miley Thomson were successful and notified by JCU via email that they had been accepted to go to JCU Townsville Campus and undergo residential preparatory program for high school students. This is the perfect opportunity to embrace the university life and gain skills for success in tertiary education. Unfortunately, Avalon is unavailable to attend but Miley is excited and keen to know more about what JCU can offer in Health which she is interested in.
We have a large number of students who have taken up many amazing opportunities on offer this term. Congratulations to our Year 11 students Miley Thomson and Avalon Black-Stone who
Queensland State Library Young Researchers Program
Congratulations to our seniors Millie Groom (Year 10) and Tiarne Watson (Year 11) who were successful in their applications for the 2025 Queensland State Library Young Researchers Program. The duo make up 10 students selected from across Queensland, an achievement our school is very proud of.
Both Millie and Tiarne had to develop an inquiry idea about Queensland for their entry to be selected, which they will now research during a week long expenses-paid experience hosted by the State Library during the September school holidays. They will also participate in workshops, access State Library collections and explore the Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery, GOMA, Anzac Square Memorial Galleries and cultural events that are on in the city at the same time.
Congratulations to our Teacher Lucy Schaeche-Priestley who has been selected as one of two Teacher Chaperones from across the state. In preparation for their trip, Lucy, Millie and Tiarne will participate in an online research induction/program. What a wonderful opportuntiy for you all!
STEM Girl Power Camp
Millie Groom was one of 70 Year 10 students and staff selected to participate in the Department of Education’s 2025 STEM Girl Power Camp last month in Brisbane. Millie took part in a variety of events including workshops and networking opportunities with experts and inspiring role models from diverse STEM fields.
Millie explored STEM pathways and discussed the importance of STEM communication at the Queensland Museum and Wheel of Brisbane. The STEM Girl Power Camp not only fostered Millie's understanding of STEM's significance in society, but also enhanced her leadership, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills.
As a 2025 STEM Ambassador, Millie will now organise and deliver a STEM event during National Science Week in Term 3, with the aim of inspiring younger students to pursue STEM subjects and careers. Well done Millie!
