Principal Perspective
Welcome back to an exciting term ahead, filled with rewarding opportunities for our students to explore.
A warm welcome goes out to the new families who have recently joined our school community. As a school, we look forward to supporting our students in reaching their full potential across various educational and extra-curricular pathways.
Newsies Production
We're thrilled to kick off the term with our school musical production of Disney’s Newsies, running from Thursday, 8th May to Saturday, 10th May. Our students have been perfecting their lines and musical routines through months of workshops and rehearsals. There will be evening shows as well as a matinee performance. We hope you will join us in celebrating the talents of our students as they shine on stage - singing, dancing, acting, and performing as part of the Newsies production team. Anzac Day
Anzac Day is an important time to reflect on its significance and meaning to our community and broader nation. It commemorates the courage, sacrifice, and unity displayed by Australian and New Zealand soldiers during World War I, and continues to honour all who have served and continue to serve our country.
In respect for Anzac Day, our school conducted a memorial service at our school cenotaph, followed by a whole school ceremony. This provided an opportunity for our students to pay their respects and understand the importance of remembering those who have made sacrifices for our nation.
I extend my thanks to our distinguished guests who attended, and to our students, who conducted themselves in an outstanding manner during both services. My gratitude further extends to all students who made the occasion special through their contributions, whether through student leadership roles, the keynote address delivered by School Vice Captain Abbie Green, performances by our instrumental music band, or the national anthems sung beautifully by our senior students Ivy Thompson and Cassius McLeod.

We were honoured to have our Year 12 student, Allegra Bradley, represent our school as one of eight Premier’s Anzac Prize recipients on an Anzac Tour across Europe. Allegra was a wonderful representative of our school and embraced the life-changing opportunity to learn first-hand about the sacrifices made. The 2025 Premier’s Anzac Prize tour group were also invited by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to lay the final wreath at the Villers-Bretonneux Dawn Service at the National Memorial in France.
We were proud to have a strong representation of students attending community dawn services and day marches across our region as a further sign of respect. Thank you to our families and staff for making the time to attend and represent our school and community.

In addition, 12 of our students participated in the annual flag ceremony at the Proserpine Cemetery on Easter Monday, paying tribute to nearly 400 servicemen and servicewomen laid to rest there.
Our sincere appreciation goes to all members of our school community for honouring such an important occasion.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Report cards were emailed home to families yesterday, Monday, 28th April. Please take the time to review these reports and engage in conversations with your child about their progress. At this week’s assembly, I challenged students to reflect on areas for improvement, how they can achieve these improvements or consolidate their results, and who they can approach for assistance.
Parent/Teacher Interviews are an invaluable opportunity for parents/carers and teachers to develop meaningful partnerships that influence student learning. To book interviews with your child's teacher/s, please use the following SOBS link: https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70329.
Your attendance is strongly encouraged at these interviews as it helps strengthen the important connection between home and school, aligning with the State Schooling Parent and Community Engagement Framework. Research clearly shows that strong home-school relationships significantly enhance student success.
Interviews will be conducted on Tuesday, 6th May, in our Multi-Purpose Hall from 3:30pm onwards.
Apprenticeship/Traineeship Readiness Evening
We are looking forward to hosting our second annual Apprenticeship/Traineeship Readiness Evening this coming Thursday, 1st May, at 6:00pm in our Multi Purpose Hall. A wide variety of business and organisation representatives will be available to chat about the career options available in their respective industries. We strongly encourage families of students in Years 10–12 to attend with their child. This will be a great opportunity to make valuable connections regarding pathways beyond school and future career choices.
Year 7 in 2026 Enrolment Information Evening
Our school invites all families with children starting high school in 2026 to attend our Year 6 into Year 7 Family Enrolment Evening, which will be held on Tuesday, 13th May, commencing at 6:00pm.
Tours of our school will start at 5:00pm from the front entrance gates on Ruge Street, including subject tasters in some of our classrooms.
Families will then join for an information session in our Performing Arts Centre. I look forward to welcoming our 2026 families on this evening.
Student Attendance
Our school promotes a 95% attendance target, which equates to no more than 10 days absent per school year. Unfortunately, attendance data from Term 1 continues to fall significantly below this benchmark. While there are often legitimate reasons for student absences, there appears to be a notable increase in parent-condoned absences.
This trend is concerning, as it significantly impacts student learning, academic performance, and the ability of our students to reach their full potential.
As we move through this exciting term, I encourage all families to stay in touch and connected with our school community. Together, we can continue to create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve their best. Our school looks forward to another successful and rewarding term ahead.
