School News

Order now for School Photos

Our annual school photo days are scheduled for Thursday 13th and Friday 14th February, 2025 in our Resource Centre.

Students in Years 7, 10, 11 and 12 will attend photography sessions throughout Thursday and Years 8 and Year 9 will attend on Friday.  All students are requested to wear their formal shirt on their assigned photo day and follow our school's Dress Code and Personal Presentation Policy (see below). Please take the time now to review your student’s uniform and presentation and arrange to purchase any item(s) required. Our school The School Locker Uniform Shop operates Tuesdays between 8-11am and Thursdays between 1-4pm. We will also have spare formal shirts available to loan from our Resource Centre on all photo days.

Please find below information for online orders. If you would like to pay cash for photos, envelopes are available for students in Care Group or from our Administration Office. As ordering is a transaction between families and AdvancedLife, if paying cash, exact money must be enclosed in the envelope as no change will be available through our school Administration Office. We ask your child to please bring their order envelope on school photo day and return it to an AdvancedLife photographer.

All students will be photographed whether an order is placed or not as these photos are used for identification purposes within our school and for the issue of Student ID Cards.  Please note due to complications of locating students and time restraints, sibling photos are not offered.

iF your child is away on either school photo day, we will have catch up photos taken on Friday 7th March.

Uniform Store Update

Welcome to new and returning students and families for the 2025 school year. Our Uniform Store now returns to normal hours: Tuesdays 8am-11am and Thursdays 1-4pm. If the flag is flying - the store is open! We wish all students a very productive and happy 2025.

Canteen News

Welcome to all our new students, teachers and parents. We encourage you to visit the canteen at some stage. There have been many Year 7 students in already which is great to see.

We accept CASH and CARD. We have 3 Eftpos machines for purchases over $5.

Lunch ordering is available between 8:30am - 8:50am in the morning. Serving times are very busy so if you’d like to help speed things up you can do so by:

  • leaving school bags outside;
  • not jumping over the bar or pushing in;
  • not entering the canteen if you are not buying;
  • saving your personal chatting for outside;
  • making choices quickly then exiting;
  • both counters can take cash and Eftpos;
  • not asking for credit;
  • using polite manners.

Canteen Staff

Introducing the ladies who feed and serve the students of Proserpine State High School.

Canteen Manager:

Michelle Milne has worked in the canteen for approximately 10 years with her last child leaving 8 years ago.

Canteen Convenors:

Karen Muller has worked in the canteen for 6 years. Karen's last daughter is in Year 11.

Karen Chittleborough has three children, the eldest graduating three years ago. Karen is a great addition to the team.

Kaylene Bennett has been here for two years. She has four children who have graduated and one in Year 10 this year.

Clare McKenzie joined us two years ago and has 2 boys who are past students.

FB_IMG_1611895139417.jpgWe are a happy bunch and love our jobs here in the canteen. Our days are busy and we enjoy chatting to the students and staff as they come into the canteen to purchase their lunches.

More volunteers are needed this year to cope with the growing number of students and staff. If you could kindly donate two hours of your time just once a month you would be providing enormous benefits to your child’s school. All profits from our canteen go directly to improving our school.

We would love to see more new faces at the canteen and we have places on our roster if you would like to come in and join us for a couple of hours a month.

Please fill out the CANTEEN Volunteer Application Form (tab on the left-hand side panel of this newsletter), leave your name and number at the school office or ring the canteen ladies on 4945 0119.

Looking forward to a fun filled Term 1.

Cheers from the canteen ladies…

Up-Date Your Contact Records

  • Parents, have you changed your address, phone number, email address, etc.?
  • Parents, have you changed jobs recently?

  • Parents, has your son/daughter’s medical details changed?

It is most important that changes to your contact records are correct as the Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have changed the Process of Student Verification for the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS).

From now on the process will be completed electronically with details held in TMR’s state-wide database being matched with data from OneSchool (our school records). The onerous task of checking large paper based reports has now been discontinued. If these records are not up-to-date your school transport assistance will be cancelled in cases where details held by TMR do not match student information held in OneSchool.

Please advise the school of any changes, not only for bus travel but also in case your student becomes unwell or they have an emergency situation.

How to update your records:

Return to the beginning of the newsletter and in the left side bar under ‘Forms & Documents’, print out the appropriate form/s (Change of Details Form or Medical Changed Details Forms), fill in the form/s and then return it/them to our Adminstration Office or send the forms via email to principal@proserpineshs.eq.edu.au. You are also welcome to call into our office to have the changes made on the spot.

Medication at School

Any prescription medication should be left at the office after the Request to Administer Medication at School Form has been completed by the parent or guardian. The medication must be in the original container provided by the doctor, dentist or optometrist, not a pharmacist, and have clear details or instructions indicating dosage and times. The permission form is valid for one week only, unless there is a permanent medication where special negotiation will take place.

Parents please note that non-script items such as Panadol can be stored in the student’s own school bag and taken as required. Non-script items are not kept at the office.

Once the Request to Administer Medication at School Form has been completed and if there is a change to any previous medication subscribed then a Medical Changed Details Form in the left side bar under ‘Forms & Documents’ can be filled out and dropped into the school.

Reminder for 2024 resource returns

All text books, library books and other resources from 2024 must be returned to the Resource Centre with an accompanying note clearly indicating the name of the returning student. It is vital that every effort is made to return the resources booked out to your student from last year so that you do not receive an invoice for outstanding items. These unreturned resources are depriving other students of their use in 2025.

What's your family Emergency Plan?

With the wet season upon us, it's a timely reminder to our families to discuss your family's plan with your child if our school is being evacuated or there are early bus departures. Does your child catch the bus home? Do they walk or drive? Having this discussion as a family ensures everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency.
