During whole school assemblies, year level parades, and Care Groups, we regularly remind students of our core expectations, emphasising the importance of upholding the values that contribute to a positive and successful finish to the school year for everyone in our community.
Our Student Code of Conduct is built on three core expectations for both students and adults at Proserpine State High School: being Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged.
We continue to highlight the importance of respectful language and communication towards all members of our school community, making responsible decisions, and being accountable for our choices. Our school strongly advocates for respectful actions toward others and upholds a zero-tolerance policy for physical or verbal misconduct. We believe every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment - values we will always promote.
Each classroom displays examples of these expectations to guide students in understanding the standards we hold:
I am RESPECTFUL:
Treat people kindly, courteously, and fairly.
Protect the right of all students to learn and teachers to teach.
Value differences and tolerate alternate views.
I am RESPONSIBLE:
Accept personal accountability for decisions and actions.
Attend school every day and be prepared for learning.
Understand the effect of your behaviour on others.
I am ENGAGED:
Strive to be the best you can be at all times and in all endeavours.
Show pride in your achievements and those of others.
Actively participate in all facets of school life.
Helping Your Child Succeed at High School
Assisting your Child to Succeed
It is timely to remind families of the upcoming demands of the Term 3 assessment period. Parents and carers are encouraged to be aware of their child’s study plan and assist them in managing study time effectively.
All students have access to a semester study planner that details their learning and assessment requirements. These overviews are personalised and available via the QParents app. A clear study plan should allocate time for homework, assignments, and regular revision, while also balancing extracurricular and personal commitments to support wellbeing and achievement.
If you need further advice regarding the end of Term assessment schedule, please contact our school.
Year 11 School Camp
Our Year 11 students recently attended camp at Cape Hillsborough, where they engaged in a range of leadership activities. I am delighted to report the camp was a resounding success, with students consistently demonstrating outstanding participation. Staff and residents at the park went out of their way to congratulate our students on their conduct, feedback every principal appreciates hearing. I trust our students created lasting memories while strengthening leadership skills in preparation for Year 12 in 2026.

Preparing for Senior – Year 9 and Year 10
Our “Success into Senior” planning sessions conducted last week have supported Year 9 students in their transition from Junior to Senior School. Parents and carers are encouraged to contact the administration office or email principal@proserpineshs.com.au if further information is required.
Year 10 SET Planning interviews have now been completed, opening valuable discussions between students, parents/carers, and the school about successful pathways into Years 11 and 12. Options such as TAFE, external courses, and School-Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships were also explored. Follow-up SET Plans will be finalised throughout the remainder of Term 3. A big thank you to all families who connected with school representatives through this important process.
Leos Club Members Inducted
Well-deserved recognition was recently given to our students who proudly demonstrated leadership and community spirit as foundation members of the newly established Whitsunday Leos Club. At the club’s presentation dinner, our students were formally acknowledged for their contributions in creating and shaping this exciting new service group.
As founding members, these students have set a high standard of commitment and generosity, inspiring future generations to follow. Their willingness to give time and energy to community programs reflects their strong character and dedication to making a difference. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive role they play in strengthening community spirit.
Student Representation
Fourteen of our Year 7 and Year 8 students recently travelled to Bowen to compete in the annual Tournament of the Minds. Their months of preparation - including rehearsals, costume-making, and prop design, were evident in their excellent performances.
Meanwhile, a dedicated group of Instrumental Music students participated in the three day Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University State Honours Ensemble Program in Mackay. The workshops culminated in a finale concert that was enjoyed by all. Well done to all students on such a positive representation of our school.

The program gives students a broader understanding of study and career options available in STEM.
Well done to you both!

Our 63rd Annual Awards Night will be held on Tuesday 18th November.
Nominations are now open for students who wish to self-nominate or nominate a peer for awards. A full list of awards available for nomination appear in Student Notices.
Students have been emailed digital copies of the nomination forms, with paper copies also available at our Administration Office.

Year 9 JET Planning Information
Last Friday, our Year 9 students took part in JET Planning interviews. It was wonderful to see the majority of students engaging in productive conversations regarding the future aspirations. As a part of the process, students discussed 2026 Year 10 subject selections. Students should have brought home their proposed subjects selections for further discussion with parents/carers.
Once students have discussed and decided on their selections with parents/ carers, they are required to enter their selections into OneSchool by 3:00pm Monday 8th September, 2025. Instructions on how to do this were provided on the day. Over the course of the next week, staff will catch-up with students who were absent on the day of Jet Planning for their interview.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
As a part of our JET Planning process, students were required to apply for a USI. A USI is required for students to engage in certificate courses in Years 10, 11 and 12. Thank you to the many Year 9 students and parents/ carers who have completed this process and have returned the necessary information to school on the day of JET Planning. Our school is now able to commence processing this information in preparation for 2026.
Those students who have not yet applied for a USI must complete this process by 3:00pm Monday 8th September, 2025 and return the necessary information to our Administration Office.

Year 12 RAAP Program
On Friday 29th August, our Year 12 students attended the Road Attitudes and Action Planning (RAAP) road safety awareness and education program delivered by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) at Proserpine State High School.
The objective of the presentation was to educate our students so they understand the following:
- that an increased level of risk exists when people are conducting driving activities involving the Fatal 5 being Speeding; Seatbelt; Inattention; Fatigue; Alcohol and other substances;
- that consequences are the inevitable result of their choices and actions;
- that by planning ahead, whether being a driver or passenger, poor choices can be avoided.
The RAAP presentation addressed the contributing factors putting young drivers at such a high risk including but not limited to:
- less developed visual and perceptual skills;
- inability to accurately identify and respond to risks and/or hazards when driving;
- overconfidence;
- inattention caused by inexperience coping with distractions while driving;
- tendency to drive at high-risk times (e.g. at night with a number of other young people in the car);
- alcohol, illicit substances, prescription medication or a combination of these;
- deliberate risk taking (e.g. high-speed driving and/or tailgating).
Thank you to the Emergency Service Personnel from our local Fire, Ambulance and Police Stations for taking the time to present to our students.
Young Tourism Leader inspires success in tourism
Our Year 11 and 12 Certificate II in Tourism students enjoyed a special virtual presentation with Young Tourism Leader, Georgie Arnold, today. Growing up in the aviation/tourism industry, Georgie dreamed of becoming a commercial helicopter pilot and after completing high school attained her pilot’s licence at the age of 19. She is now a charter pilot and the social media marketing manager for Townsville Helicopters.
The Young Tourism Leaders program champions accomplished Queenslanders who are making their mark in the tourism industry, and highlight the exciting and diverse paths that tourism careers offer.
North Queensland Cricket Representation
Congratulations to our Year 7 students, Zahra Cale and Ellen Smith, who have been chosen to represent North Queensland for Cricket. Both girls travelled in Ingham for their respective trials and are part of a combined Peninsula and North Queensland team.
Zahra was selected in the 10-12-years girls cricket team last month and was a wizard with her spin bowling and excelled in the batting session. Zahra will be representing NQ at the State titles at Marchant Park, Aspley in Brisbane from the 15th–19th of September this year.
Ellen was selected in the 13-14-years age group last weekend. In early November, Ellen will be travelling to Rockhampton to represent NQ at the Girls State Championships from 3 -6 November. The girl’s selections are credit to their dedication and commitment to their chosen sport. Their skill development continues with them taking advantage of every opportunity to improve, watch cricket and learn. They are growing with confidence and are looking forward to an exciting cricket season ahead.
Junior Inter-school Netball Competition
All teams played with incredible sportsmanship, and bundles of enthusiasm against their local rivals. This was a great way to finish the netball season for our junior students who have been joining in our lunchtime netball sessions at school. Our teams consisted of:
Year 7: Pippa Webb, Paeton Lorraway, Ellen Smith, Lola Borman, Tarni Henshaw, Kelsey Roe, Ruby Tompkinson,

Music students honoured to play in State Program
Last weekend, fourteen of our Instrumental Music students from Years 7 to 11 were selected to attend the annual State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) at Mackay North State High School. These students represented our school across three days of music making, culminating in a midday concert on Sunday. Our students played in the Concert Band and String Orchestra that were conducted by esteemed guest conductors from Brisbane.
This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to perform high-level repertoire in a collaborative environment that extends beyond their regular classroom and rehearsal experiences. SHEP not only challenged our students musically but also gave them the chance to connect with like-minded peers from across the region, broadening their networks and developing their confidence as young musicians.
We are proud of the way our students represented our school, both on stage and off, demonstrating commitment, discipline, and enthusiasm. A special thank you from our Instrumental Music Teachers, Mr Williams and Mr Harries, to all parents for their support in travelling with students to and from Mackay all weekend. These opportunities wouldn’t be possible without your efforts. Congratulations to all involved.
Our Year 10 student Charli Young attended SHEP and said it was a fun experience learning new music and creating new friendships.
"The music was amazing, and our conductors made it very easy to understand," she said.
"Thanks to our music teachers Mr Harries and Mr Williams we were lucky enough to be involved in such a great experience."
Leos Club recruiting for 2026!
We are thrilled to announce the grand inauguration of Whitsunday Leos Club, a momentous occasion that marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our journey.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all who supported this project from its conception to its completion. Your continued encouragement drives us to aim higher and serve better. A special thank you to the Proserpine Lions Club mentors Jane Bettridge and Misty Bland for their encouragement and support of our students.

SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Father's Day
For many years now, the role of fathers has changed and evolved. During the industrial revolution, fathers were often considered detached and distant due to working long hours in factories. However, today things have changed dramatically with many dads being celebrated for being sensitive, caring and more hands-on.
Recent studies have shown that children benefit greatly from having fathers who are present and interacting in everyday activities. This has transformed the understanding of how fathers shape children’s lives from the start, challenging conventional ideas of parenthood and gender.
Research also suggests that fathers influence their sons and daughters in different ways, which is especially true during their transition to adolescence. Engaging in regular physical activities can play a key role in influencing children to learn self-control, face challenges, regulate emotions and take manageable risks.
In this Special Report, fathers will learn about the positive impact they can have on their child’s mental health and wellbeing, whilst also ensuring they indulge in a little self-care.
Here is the link to your Special Report.

What year did you graduate? 2016
Best experience since graduating at Proserpine State High School? My best experience would be my time in Mallorca performing with strangers who very quickly became some of my best friends. While in Mallorca I decided to move to London and I’m currently living with one of my former castmates. Packing up everything I had and darting off to another continent was the best thing I’ve ever done and it’s all thanks to my singing contract in Spain.
A quote from my university lecturer, Miss Paula Dawson, that I’ll never forget.
“It’s acting not an aorta transplant!*"
Feel free to replace ‘acting’ with whatever the task in front of you is. Stop overthinking and just hook in. Just get the ball rolling. Write the first few sentences of your essay and it’ll just start flowing.
